Understanding Consent

This resource has been approved by the Minister of Education and Childcare for use in Alberta classrooms to meet the following learning outcomes:

  • Grade 6 Physical Education and Wellness – Students investigate human reproduction from fertilization to birth.
  • Grade 7 Health and Life Skills W-7.13 Students examine the influences on personal decision making for responsible sexual behaviour.
  • Grade 7 Physical Education and Wellness (DRAFT) – Students examine intimacy and its role in healthy sexual relationships.
  • Grade 8 Health and Life Skills W-8.12 Students identify and describe the responsibilities and consequences associated with involvement in a sexual relationship.
  • Grade 8 Physical Education and Wellness (DRAFT) Students analyze factors that impact sexual relationships.
  • Grade 9 Health and Life Skills – W-9.7 Students evaluate implications and consequences of sexual assault on a victim and those associated with that victim.
  • Grade 9 Health and Life Skills – W-9.12 Students determine “safer” sex practices; e.g., communicate with partner, maintain abstinence, limit partners, access/use condoms/ contraceptives properly.
  • Grade 9 Physical Education and Wellness (DRAFT) Students analyze the influence of factors and strategies that support sexual health.
  • Grade 9 Physical Education and Wellness (DRAFT) Students examine how sexual relationships can change over time.
  • Grades 10-12 Career and Life Management – P11. Students examine the relationship between commitment and intimacy in all its levels.
